There it was, here and gone. It may seem silly but I keep a little notebook for lists and to draw each month's calendar in for marking down upcoming things (like anybody) but mostly to use in hindsight for recording what I did. It's a helpful tool for me to get a visual grasp on the passage of time and feel a sense of quality and worth because without this document the days blend and become hard to distinguish. Turns out it was a fairly busy month!
Here in Girdwood mother nature can't decide which to wear, spring or winter so we have gotten a mixture. For example on the 3rd through 5th I comfortably backpacked into Juneau Lake Cabin along the Resurrection Trail dressed for 55 degrees but got back for work in time for a single digit cold snap lasting until the 16th. Then it warmed back up and SNOWED 14" for the best powder skiing of the season and winter stoke! Temperatures continued rising however, melting winter all over again to deliver the mini summer of March 18th - 24th spent happily running muddy trails and hiking below tree line with the Finn dog. Last week I took a little trip to Homer and was greeted with strong spring-like winds but then today stepped out of yoga class to snowflakes as big as feathers falling in my face! Hopefully April will be more decisive. I for one, am ready for real spring.
With my part-time job now over I've got about a month before starting work on the F/V Alaskan Belle for another season of seining. In that window I am so excited to spend a few days showing AK off to my sister Elanore who comes to visit this weekend! I also plan to use this time to build up Stray Goose Studio inventory before I have to pack my studio up until September. It's always a balancing act in these transitory months between seasons and jobs. Scrambling to finish one commitment while planing and preparing for the next. Catching up. Re-assessing. Taking advantage of the freedom of temporary joblessness and doing what is needed for the self. Maybe even being a little indulgent... energy is high, it's good to feel good!
Stay tuned for upcoming handy-works and hopefully a few exciting studio related announcements. I have good intentions to write a few more posts before shipping out for fishing. Wishing a happy April to everyone and thank you, as always, for checking in:)
